“Behold I am coming soon….”Rev. 3:11, 22:7, 22:12
“Before you are items you must use… You will have a set number of minutes in which to complete your task… When time is up, you are finished… Go.”
If you have ever watched the show “Chopped” on the Food Network, you have heard these phrases. The show operates with four contestants and three judges. The contestants must use the items in their baskets to create a certain kind of dish and they have a limited amount of time to complete it. The judges then gauge the success of the dish based on different criteria. As the time ticks down, contestants scramble to finish what they have created before time runs out.
We have each been given a “basket” of spiritual gifts and opportunities to do something with them that glorifies Jesus. And we too have a set number of days in which to serve a pleasing offering before our God. But at times, we forget that Jesus is coming again, and according to the Book of Revelation, “is coming soon.”
If we are honest, we want more time – to do things better, to do things over, to try and get it right. Sometimes because we spend too much time of what we don’t need to spend time on. Sometimes because we don’t spend enough time on what we should be spending time on. And it is no different in the ways we use the gifts, resources, and talents God has given us.
Even though we do not know the exact time, like those food show contestants do, we are assured that there is an urgency in getting the Good News of Jesus Christ out into our homes, our communities, our churches, our world. We cannot stop the clock…either in our personal earthly existence or in the existence of time. Therefore, what we do NOW matters.
If one person accepts Christ, it matters NOW
If a person is on your mind and you say a prayer- even though you don’t know why – it matters NOW
If a young person hears how much Jesus loves them unconditionally, it matters NOW
If one person is given a reason to hope, it matters NOW
Jesus is coming soon….so every thing we do and don’t do, matters NOW.
God’s given you a basket…now go do something with it NOW.
